Description
The Australian Gold Kangaroo, also known as the Australian Nugget is a gold bullion coin minted by the Perth Mint. Each coin contains 1 troy ounce of gold. From 1986 to 1989, the reverse of these coins portrayed various Australian gold nuggets, hence the name Australian Gold Nugget even till today. After the year 1989, the design was changed to feature Australia’s most famous marsupial, the kangaroo.

The reverse side of the coin features an adult kangaroo standing on its haunches, next to a fence on a property in rural Australia
The obverse side of the coin features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley in the center of the coin. In the circular border of the coin, the words “Elizabeth II and Australia” is highlighted. At the bottom of the coin, the legal tender value of the 1oz gold coin is indicated, which is 100 Australian Dollars.

The coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965 and has the face value of 100 Australian Dollars.
