Description
First issued in 1995 and now in its third round, the long-running Australian Lunar Coin Series celebrates the animals of the Chinese zodiac with a sequence of annual designs portraying the mouse, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog and pig. This 2022 coin features the tiger, which is said to bestow determination, courage, confidence and charm on those born under its influence in 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010 and 2022.

Lunar Tiger Design
Each coin portrays a fearless tiger standing on a peak with its open jaws displaying razor sharp canine teeth. The design includes the inscription ‘TIGER 2022’, the Chinese character for ‘tiger’ and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
The obverse side of the coin features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley in the center of the coin. In the circular border of the coin, the words “Elizabeth II and Australia” is highlighted.
At the bottom of the coin, the legal tender value of the 1 troy oz platinum coin is indicated, which is 1 Australian Dollar, together with the year of the mintage, 2022, and the purity and weight of the coin, 1 oz, and 9995 platinum
Australian Legal Tender
The coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965. The coin’s obverse bears the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on its obverse, and the monetary denomination.
