The Australian Silver Kookaburra series of coins is an ongoing issue of beautiful .999 fine silver bullion coins from Australia’s famous Perth Mint that celebrates one of the country’s great national symbols: the Kookaburra. Native to Eastern and Southern Australia, these iconic birds are the largest members of the Kingfisher family and are known across Australia for their distinctive song and for the tenacity with which they defend their nests. Since their introduction in 1990, Silver Kookaburras have been prized by collectors who eagerly await the unveiling of a new design each year.

Original 2012 Kookaburra Design
The reverse kookaburra design depicts the Kookaburra bird perched on the branch of a Eucalyptus tree amongst its leaves. The bird is shown looking over its left wing with its beak slightly open.
The coin’s obverse bears the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on its obverse, and the monetary denomination.

The coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.
