The Australian Silver Kookaburra series of coins is an ongoing issue of beautiful .999 fine silver bullion coins from Australia’s famous Perth Mint that celebrates one of the country’s great national symbols: the Kookaburra. Native to Eastern and Southern Australia, these iconic birds are the largest members of the Kingfisher family and are known across Australia for their distinctive song and for the tenacity with which they defend their nests. Since their introduction in 1990, Silver Kookaburras have been prized by collectors who eagerly await the unveiling of a new design each year.

Original 2016 Kookaburra Design
The reverse of each 2016 1 oz Silver Australian Kookaburra coin features a Kookaburra perched on a fence post amidst an Australian landscape. The Perth Mint’s “P” mintmark and year-date are included in the design.
The coin’s obverse bears the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on its obverse, and the monetary denomination.
Australian Legal Tender
The coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.
